The Fiber Optic project in Kurdistan
Some information on Fiber Optic The creation of this technology goes back to the 1970s, but only in the 1990s its wide application resulted in cheaper telephone fares. The importance of this technology is its ability to transform great amount of information, as much as GB/S10 to GB/S40, whether the transformation is done through telephone, television, internet or other means. No other communication technology can match this ability. The distinguishing characteristics of this technology are: no interference with electricity or other means of communications, it is able to resist magnetic field, it can be extended to over 100km without the need to apply repeaters and it is light, flexible and rarely losses power. A number of Fiber Optic projects have been implemented in Kurdistan. The major Fiber Optic project connects Kurdistan with the European countries via Turkey. It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Communications sends the Ministry’s technicians for training abroad and runs internal training courses to prepare experts in this area. The Fiber Optic project in Kurdistan So far the Directorate of Fiber Optic has implemented many important (Fiber Optic) Projects in Kurdistan. These projects are milestones for advancing the communication sector in Kurdistan. One of the most important projects implemented for the first time in Kurdistan and Iraq, is the installation of (600) kilometers circular cable line and connects Kurdistan to Europe and other countries via Turkey. The capacity of this line is (48) core and has a great ability in transferring information and progressing the communication sector in Kurdistan. Also the (RSU) system is implemented, which is connected through fiber optic to provide communication services to the citizens in both (Hawler and Duhok). This system is composed of (ADSL) for telephone and internet and it is one of the most active systems in the communication area.
