The history of post in Kurdistan

After the uprising of Kurdish people in (1991), The Iraqi Government decided to return back all of the Governmental offices from Kurdistan to the center of Iraq.

With those situations the department of posts in Kurdistan was continuing their duty, but by the posing of preventing international aids and also preventing Iraq from economical helps then the posts was only exchanged locally, the same stamp of Iraq was used.

After activating the fourth cabinet of Kurdistan Region Authority and reactivating the industries and Government offices in Kurdistan, post affairs been developed too for the first time special stamps of Kurdistan region been printed, and it was three different types that was containing the picture of Kurdistan parliament building and it was used locally.

According the requirements of posts like installing the boxes (cabinet) of post in general places and providing the needed things for transportation like (motor, bicycle.) And also hiring the cars for transportation between the cities and towns and also providing special cloths (uniforms) for postmen. Then the Ministry of Transportation and Communications decided so as to send the posts of Kurdistan region to out side of the country, then in Ibrahim xalil port in Turkey post in xabur we hired (30) post boxes of xabur for the address of the people of Kurdistan and also for sending and receiving all types posts from outside of Kurdistan region because of the reason of buying the posts from Turkey ,the number (33-4) was used for Kurdistan boxes .any one who was sending to Kurdistan ,and it was sent to Kurdistan by this address then we were dividing the posts to people. With establishing the third cabinet of Kurdistan region authority so many things been done for this affair like developing and installing more boxes for it. Also for the second time in (1997) other post stamps been printed that was the photo of Eternal General Mustafa Barzane, the type of (1-2-5) diners where used for local exchanges.

In (1997) in memory for the major aylul revolution the post stamps where containing the picture of minaret and castle of arbil that printed in printed-press of ministry of culture.

In (1998) again the picture of post stamp been changed into nawroz celebration picture as a Kurds national celebration in (19/3/1998) been created. Also in (1998) for the celebration of 100 years of journalism of Kurds, a stamp been created which was containing miqdad Ahmad's picture. Also in (1998) four types of colored stamps in title of wealth of nature been printed in printed-press of ministry of culture at (1998/7/28) it contained the fish, deer, and oak trees...each of them is the symbol of the nature wealth of Kurdistan. Also in (1998) seven types of stamps been printed in printed-press of Ministry of Culture its made for keeping the culture places of Kurdistan and each of them was the symbol of a specified thing like akre castle, arbil castle ,dalal bridge ,xns cave,shandar cave, and also wasta rajab infantry in rawandz.

In (1999/2/8) interior post stamps been printed it was about the habit of cloths in Kurdistan cities like Soran, Badinan, Garmian, Karkuk, Snjare section, and kldans been contained in that stamps, which was (8) colored stamps that printed in ministry of culture, also in (1999/5/17) eleven(11) types of stamps been created as the memory for the national celebrations and the culture national celebration that was a disaster like Halabja's disaster by chemical bombing and Kurdish immigrations and also Kursitan's resorts, ancient places all of that printed in the printed-press of Ministry of Culture. Also in (1999/8/21) twenty four (24) types of stamps been printed in Ministry of Culture that where referred to national culture and the political leaders as (sheikh mahmudee namr) and so many other pictures. Also in (1999/11/15) is for the 3 years of celebration of Kurdistan television colored post stamps been created.

In (2000/9/3) forty eight colored post stamps been created, each of them was the symbol of a specified thing.

in (2001/12/27) twenty four stamps been created each of them had its meaning and each of them was the symbol of a national culture and a political leader of Kurdistan and also Kurdish author's that was printed in print-press of ministry of education. Also in (2001) some times the Kurdistan posts where having problems in Turkey's way to Kurdistan because the Kurdish books, cloths, cassettes , letters where forbidden to be sent to European countries and other parts of the world .

In (2003/5/31), 30 types of stamps been printed in ministry of education.

In November of (2005), 30 types of stamps been printed at the Ministry of Education. The total stamps that been printed from the beginning of establishing third cabinet of Kurdistan Authority by supervisor of ministry is (190) types of stamps. That the price of these stamps will cost millions of diners that was used for exchanging the posts between the towns and cities of Kurdistan Region. It is thirteen years that we are using our stamps for the post exchanges and the products will return to Kurdistan budget.



The activities of post department in Kurdistan:

  1. Approximately there is (40) posts in the cities and towns of Erbil cities and Duhok.
  2. The daily exchanges of our posts are between cities and towns of Erbil-Sulaimane-Duhok-Karkuk.
  3. After the process of Iraqi freedom we visited the department of posts in Baghdad for the purpose of exchanging the posts between Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi Federal. Also in Baghdad way our outer post will be sent and received from the Baghdad way. The requirements that we got from Kurdistan region post office, which is cars, motor's, bicycle, and the system of electronic budget that is used and also internet services so as to confirm that where these post has to be sent and to whom it will be sent. And also getting some post boxes and also getting Iraq's Federal stamps which cost (5) million Diner for outer post.
  4. Subscribing by the post and creating albums in sulaimania exhibition and karkuk for the memory of the celebration of 16th of august in (2003) which was the celebration of (57) years of establishing the P.D.K "parti democratic of Kurdistan".
  5. Creating the albums of Kurdistan stamps for several times and sending these albums to out of Kurdistan other countries in the world by the political party responsible's and leaders.
  6. Attending Erbil's International Exhibition at (2005/9/15) with a large amount of Kurdistan stamps with different kind's albums of stamps.
  7. Agreement and permission for opening post bureau's in a special section of aramax international company for transferring fast posts in three days for the rest of the world.
  8. Hanging a post boxes in cities and towns for the people and our post is exchanged daily to the other countries in the world and our posts will be sent from Turkey's way in Xabur to the out of Kurdistan.
  9. And also sending our post stamps to outside of Kurdistan it was not only under the control of political parties and other responsible's but it is a while that form several countries and nations asked as, so as to send us Kurdistan posts those who like collecting post stamps like France, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Germany, we send them stamps as a gift.


The development program of post in Kurdistan:

For developing the post process in Kurdistan, Kurdistan Regional Government has a good plan and with the following issues:
  1. Establishing a giant building according to the latest system of posts in the world in the place of the building (coaxial cable) near the current building. This will be on the budget of Iraq Federal Government that (65) million dollars will be spent on this project.
  2. Creating the stamps of Federal Iraq's post in a condition that the pictures on the stamp must be assigned by the Kurdistan Region Authority that is to be used for our posts.
  3. Registration of all buildings and houses in Kurdistan so as to hang a post box in every house.
  4. Opening the bureau for the Kurdistan International Airport for using the international posts.
  5. Forbidding the unlicensed posts from the media industries like radio and television centers because posts already have (mail monopolization).
  6. Unfolding the Kurdistan post stamps by internet to all the part of the world.
  7. Establishing of Call and internet offices.
  8. Connecting the peoples to PSTN.
  9. Training courses for the employees of posts.
